HS: Spring SIMA FAB 50, June 6
NEWS: Powered by eight wins over nationally ranked opponents and a 20-match win streak to end the season, Barrington (Ill.) will finish No. 1 in the SIMA FAB 50 Spring rankings for 2017.
In an epic state final, Barrington edged three-time defending state champion New Trier is a shootout following a scoreless match after 100 minutes of play.
Barrington's first state title brings about a first-ever national title, and the Broncos become the fourth Illinois program to finish No. 1, joining Waubonsie Valley, Neuqua Valley and New Trier. Barrington's title helps Illinois snap a tie with North Carolina, which has three programs that have won FAB 50 crowns.
Around the country this week, the high school boys season will come to an end with the Virginia state championships. The SIMA FAB 50 No. 2 ranking is on the line with the Virginia championships. On the girls side, Iowa, Michigan, Virginia and Wisconsin have yet to finish out the season, but regardless of the outcome it will not alter the current Top 5.

BIG MOVERS: BOYS: James River (Midlothian, Va.). James River vaulted from No. 50 to No. 19 this week after winning the 6A South regional title, which featured several SIMA FAB 50 teams. Overall, it was a strong showing for the Richmond schools as they eliminated the Virginia Beach powers, leaving the 6A state tournament a showdown between D.C. Metro programs and Richmond schools. ... GIRLS: James Madison (Vienna, Va.). ch.). Madison moved up eight spots to No. 23 this week after winning the 6A North crown.
